GEORGI  ANGELOV

GEORGI ANGELOV has graduated the BULGARIAN STATE ACADEMY FOR MUSICAL ARTS. He has worked as a musician at the SOFIA OPERA THEATRE, in the orchestra of the STATE THEATRE FOR SATIRE and in the CHAMBER SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ORPHEUS. At present he accompanies in live a number of different plays in two Bulgarian theatres, playing his own music. He has participated in theatre festivals in Greece and Albania with them.
He has played in various recordings of theatre, film, ballet and children’s music in the BULGARIAN NATIONAL TELEVISION and the BULGARIAN NATIONAL RADIO. He has played with various jazz and ethno bands.

Since 1996 he has been playing with ART FORMATION OM  performing numerous concerts and taking part in a lot of festivals in BULGARIA and EUROPE  with them /NEW ETHNIC 1996 – LEIPZIG, WORLD EXPO 2000 – HANOVER,  SZIGET FESTIVAL 2004 – HUNGARY and others/. OM have twelve CDs with music composed by Nikolay Ivanov issued in GERMANY /RITUAL PLACES IN BULGARIA – ERDENKLANG 1997/, HUNGARY /THE LONG WAY – PERIFERIC RECORDS 1998 and BULGARIA / LIKE A RIVER – AVENEW PRODUCTIONS 2003 and others/.

Since 2000 he has been playing with quartet of contrabasses AMRITA. Together they played at jazz – festivals in BULGARIA and MACEDONIA. He has also been playing with ART FORMATION ETHNOS and has performed a number of ethno concerts with them.

For several years GEORGI ANGELOV has been playing with Bulgarian best jazz guitar-player OGNIAN VIDEV who has played at jazz festivals all over the world – EUROPE, AMERICA, AFRICA and ASIA. Together they have performed several very successful concerts at the best Bulgarian jazz-fests as well as in DENMARK where in September 2001 and September 2002 they gave 15 concerts in KOPENHAGEN and ARHUS /CHRISTIANIA, BENJI CLUB, ARHUS ARTS FEST…/ 

GEORGI ANGELOV plays Balkan, Arabic, Indian, Latin American, African and his own unique percussion, tarambuka /dumbek/, ghatam, drums, kaval, bagpipe, dvojanka  and others.
GEORGI ANGELOV practices and experiments in different styles of music – jazz, ethno, baroque, rock, folk and classical music under the influence of the world music. Recently he has finished the recordings of two CD projects CROSSROADS and CROSSROADS II. They are not issued yet and he is looking for a company interested in their issuing.
In these CDs his conception for eclectic and hybrid Balkan music has been created. In this music you can hear intonations and rhythms of all Balkan nations as well as the music of all the peoples who have influenced on the Balkan culture – Arabians, Persians, Indian, Armenians, Jews, etc.
GEORGI ANGELOV uses non-typical for the Balkans percussion instruments as further expressive means for strengthening the feeling of mystery   . In this experiment he uses kaval   , violoncello    and gadulka     in a non-traditional way as well as the principle of folk playing – two voices – high and low, iso and rhythm. Percussion instruments are used not only for accompaniment but also as solo instruments. These free music forms give opportunity for improvisation and lead to the creation of ART ETHNO and ART FOLK.
